Just a little heads up: Bubble Boy is on AMC right now.

I thought about just posting this in my personal blog, but DJC is really lacking in posts these days, so here’s a mini-review!
Bubble Boy is a dumb movie. It really is. However…dammit, it makes me laugh.
I remember the first time I saw it, I was in hysterics. It’s one of those “so hilarious because it’s completely random” types of movies, and when I saw it back when I was, like, 12 or something, I had never seen a movie with that type of humor. I was rolling around on the floor, cracking up at jokes that seem juvenile to me over a decade later.
Still, if you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a watch. It’s Jake Gyllenhaal in one of his earlier flicks, and he shows absolutely zero shame on the screen. But that’s fine, because he plays a lovesick naive teen-child who was raised by his insanely-overprotective mother since birth. He goes off on an insane road trip where he meets up with an Indian ice cream man, a gang of tough-as-nails motorcyclists, and a fanatic religious cult who believes him to be the second coming of…whatever god they believe in.
Oh, and he has no immune system, so he’s doing all of this inside of a plastic bubble.
It’s just fun, especially for my younger readers (“younger” here meaning “not above the age of 25”).
I dunno. It’s funny. It still makes me laugh on occasion. So there.
